Weekly Wrap up #8

I'm signing up with the Caffeinated Reviewer for Sunday Post and Reader Buzz for Sunday Salon.

Another stressful week in the books my Father- in- law was admitted to the hospital late Saturday night with pneumonia and Covid. They released him Weds but he has oxygen and is quarantined. We've been going to the store for him and what not, then leaving everything outside his door.

On the positive end little man is now in two short casts so he can move both arms and is healing well so the doctors are optimistic that next visit he'll be in braces instead of casts. Fingers crossed.

Book wise I have been a little bad, I stumbled over the Fear Street Saga on Kindle Unlimited and got a bit nostalgic. As a kid I loved these books, I had almost the whole collection as I talked my mom into signing me up for a Fear Street Book Club though Scholastic. It was my birthday present. We moved around a lot and I'm really not sure what happened to them. Anyway I found several on Kindle Unlimited and started reading them again. As they are kids books they're fairly short most just shy 200 pages. I'm considering rebuying the series or at least my favorites but I have a problem... they were rereleased with new covers and I want the old covers but they're super expensive on Ebay/ Amazon. Yes I could buy them on Kindle but I'd really like to have physical copies.

Anyone else run into this problem when trying to find old books?

Anyway I'm almost through all the Fear Street books on Kindle Unlimited and then I will get back to the Holiday Challenge. Psst you can still sign up, and possibly win a $25 dollar gift card to Amazon.

These two have been placed on the back burner.

  1. How fun that you are rereading a series that you loved as a kid! I've met R. L. Stein a few times at conferences, and, let me tell you, he is a scary-looking fellow.

I hope your father-in-law will respond well to treatment and that he will be able to heal and go home soon.

  2. I'm sorry to hear about your father in law! I hope he makes a full and quick recovery and doesn't have too much trouble...

Yes I do have this problem with old books sometimes. It can definitely be tough to get the covers you want! I wish you luck with them and hope you find 'em! Sometimes used bookstores can help although we've lost some of our used bookstores lately which sucks.

    1. Thank you! We don't have any used bookstore around here any more.

  3. I've got some series I had as a child. Some Nancy Drew, the Black Stallion books and the Bobbsey twins. I found some copies at thrift stores or places like Half Price books or used book stores, before I started only buying digital books and audiobooks.

    1. Our local Thrift stores usually only have old romance and self help books although I have found a gem or two. Thanks for the tip. Hope you have a great week!

  4. It's brave to reread a childhood favorite. Sometimes it's so disappointing. I hope all your family's health problems get better.

    1. That's true. I began rereading one series I loved as a kid and reading it with adult eyes it was not what I remembered. Thank you and I hope you have a great week.
